Happy Mardi Gras Day

"Mardi Gras" suggests that "Fat Tuesday." historically, it's the last day for Catholics to indulge—and typically overindulge—before Ash Wednesday starts the sober weeks of fasting that accompany Lent. Formally referred to as Shrove Tuesday, Mardi Gras has long been a time of extravagant fun for European Christians. In fact, some folks assume Mardi Gras celebrations have their supply within the wild springtime orgies of the traditional Romans.

In the US, Mardi Gras attracts legion fun-seekers to New Orleans each year. Mardi Gras has been celebrated in New Orleans on a grand scale, with masked balls and colourful parades, since French settlers arrived within the early 1700s. Hidden behind masks, folks behaved thus raucously that for many years within the early nineteenth century masks were deemed illegal in that party-loving town.
